Athletics is the country's strongest sport and the one in which they field the most athletes.
Star performers
1980 was Tanzania's most successful year ever, with Filbert Bayi winning silver in the 3000m steeplechase and Suleiman Nyambui winning silver in the 5,000m. In 2012, former Commonwealth Games champion Samson Ramadhani leads the countries hopes. He finished fifth in the world championships in 2005 but has never performed at an Olympics, finishing 40th in Athens and 55th in Beijing.

I real like to know how they select those people who present Tanzania in Olympic? is it all about their parent are famous or what, we need our country to be in the world of sports which will boost tourism. people like Filbert Bayi where are you and what are you doing to influence new generation to make our country proud?Surely when i will come back home i believe i will make lots of change in everything.
